It may be true that Mr Change has been occupied by other priorities but even then I don't think anyone will ever care about legal aliens who pays Taxes every year. US won't get anything if they issue GCs to us. Remember they have to tackle unemployment in US if they issue GCs to every H1/L1. They lure best talent to US with GCs etc etc but what they really need is Taxes (and ofcourse some talent) from us which they are anyway getting.

for handsfree , you could either do it through accountant or legalzoom.com once you set up the company, you need to get your Federal tax id for the company, then file for any local city business license ( few cities have that requirement), Open a bank account...

I closed on dec 27. Underwriter asked me about green card. I just sent EAD copy front and back as well as AP and explained to him that EAD is like learners driving permit that is issued when your GC is under process. :D

What will happen to IV in next few months if every one gets GC? Will there be a Pappu / waldenpond / whoever? I am seeing today lots of people getting GC. I am happy for them.
Assume one day there are no backlogs and no country quota limit. What will be IVs agenda? I want to be active member of IV even after getting my GC helping the future immigrants. At least I say that now :)

This is only for EB 2 aliens of exceptional ability. As far as I know this does not need perm. I got an EB2 alien of exceptional ability when my last employer filed through Schedule A. So don't sweat this does not apply to the usual EB-2 route...as far as I can tell...

Only EB2-NIW (National Interest Waiver) even currently requires 10 years of work experience in the relevant field at the time of filing this is the category that does not require labor and van be self filed. The exceptional ability refers to Non US Masters folks Bachelors + 5 Years, now looks like this is bachelors + 10 years. The memo is currently not implemented Smuggymba I believe you should push your case in premium processing, probably you are not impacted though as you have a US masters (MBA). But there is no guarantee that they will not review all cases at the time of 485 once again. This memo / revised guidelines are indeed extremely scary. Every year congress mandates that 140k immigrant visas may be issued. Lets say, in a particular year 200k applications were sent in, but only half of them could reach a stage where they could be approved (rest half are stuck in name check et al). Now you can approve only 100k which means that 40k visas which could have been used will go wasted for that year.
If visa numbers are assigned to cases as soon as the application is entered into the system based on the PD even if there case is not approved that year still they can get the visa whenever there case can be approved so effectively no visas are wasted in any year.

IV friends ,
Last week my lawyer has asked for copy of Driving License of me and my wife for filing the H1-B and H4 extension.
Then one of my friend told me that INS is asking for copy of the driving license for filing the h1-B extension.
My employer is supposed to file my 3 year Extension based on I-140 in Dec this year( Dec 2007) but my Licences expires on Sept 2008, So I will I be just getting the extension till Sept 2008 and Not 3 year extension.
Any Idea on that

I watched the video and One of the things I noticed was the difficulty the State dept is facing to keep the numbers within limitation so they tend to achieve 90%-95% because the legislative limitation doesn't allow them to go beyond even by few numbers

Typically a company coming out with an IPO will have certain number of shares authorized to sell, In addition to that they also reserve certain small number in addition to these to accommodate any excess shares issued by the underwriters.
Why don't we have some numbers similar to that. This would make the life of the State dept much easier.

Why is everybody so freaking out? arent they going to release new visas for FY 2009 in October? My assumption is November's bulletin will take care of the cut off dates based on those visa numbers.

By the way, let me clarify that I have nothing against 2006 PD who got approved last month...but my frustration is against USCIS system who does not follow FIFO. Sorry if I have hurt someone's feelings.
This is really frustrating...moving EB2-I cut-off dates to Aug 2006, approving large number of 2006 PD cases and leaving 2003 - 2005 cases aside.

We cannot expect core members to be online all the time, and we cannot expect to see lobbying related information unless a bill actually comes out. I think what we CAN do is keep the average members like me who want to do something, engaged with things that are within reach.
FOIA campaign was a great example of this.
However, I am very sad to report that only 3 other members from Texas Chapter participated. With such level of participation, I am not even sure that such campaigns are meaningful. Lobbying seems the best option, where we can pay and then be lazy the rest of the time, but the drawback is that updates will be once in 6 months or a year depending on when bill is being introduced.
With all due respect to the selfless hard work of IV core, I concur with ItIsNotFunny. There are many members who feel this way. IV core should be more open to members. I feel a cloud of secrecy always surrounding IV. Of course they cannot be public about all their activities, but more needs to be done on this front. You will see more members actively participating if core is more open.

i believe the way it is going to proceed is if they don't have time to discuss everything they will discuss the rest in the senate floor. however if the conflicting ones like illegal aliens one, enforcement ones are resolved then this bill might go to the floor and the remaining ones would be discussed. hence if till tile 3 is over then this bill might be considered for vote on teh senate floor. this is my understnading based on what i heard.
