The Washington Post reports on data released from the Border Patrol. Among the findings: - The number of Border Patrol agents has more than doubled from 9,000 in 2001 to 20,000 this year - 626 miles of the border with Mexico are now covered by fencing and vehicle barriers which is about half of the planned coverage on the 2000 mile border. - Border arrests are down from nearly 1.75 million in 2000 to 723,000 over the past year While the economy obviously plays a role, the dramatic uptick in enforcement sure is playing a role and Senator Schumer's contention...

I have EAD, AP and H-1B. I don't have H-1b stamped on my passport. I would like to travel on AP.
According to my lawyer;
"For every paper (AP) you have, you can make one trip with it. So if you have 3 original papers, you make 3 trips in and out of the country."
Is this true? My friends who traveled outside the country were told at the port of entry that AP can be used for multiple entry and the above does not hold true.
Any insight would be appreciated.

I got my EAD last October (filed for my I-485 on July 02, '07) but did not apply for my AP then;
Now I need to apply for my EAD renewal and am also thinking of getting an AP. Do I need to get an AP for the current year (that is for the time period from Oct '07 to Oc 08) and then apply for AP extension or can I directly apply for AP for Oct '08 to Oct '09?
the second option will save me money and so for me that is the preferred one :D
any information on this is much appreciated,

Just saw this story from a few days ago. Aside from being a hugely irresponsible way to spend a broke state's taxpayer funds, this idea also is probably unconstitutional. Does Arizona plan on having its own border control points? Will the state's wall interfere with Border Patrol activities? The federal government is supposed to control the national borders and not the states. Not that Arizona minds wasting the state's money to continue to losing that point.

Yes he is in 'Adjustee Status' also a person can start working as soon as new employer files H1 petition on his/her behalf. So if the petition was filed on time and took 40 days to be approved your friend was in H1 status since the day the petition was received by USCIS

My H-1B expires next year (after 6 years). I have been here 10 years (on J-1 and then H-1B visa). My employer isn't in a position to apply for Labor Certification, although they want to continue hiring me. I want to stay (no relatives here etc.). I know after one year, I can return on a new H-1B if my employer will petition again but it is messy and I want residency. I am from Britain. Help!!!

I believe working on 1099 is allowed when you have the full time work on H1B going.
There are different types of 1099. 1099-Misc is not allowed. 1099-Int , 1099-G are the examples of allowed 1099s

You should check the EB3 ROW (Rest of the world) date in the visa bulletin which is published every month - Visa Bulletin (http://travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html)
The July bulletin shows the date as 15th Aug 2003. It's difficult to estimate when it'll get to July 2007 because the movement is not linear.

I filed paper based AP at Nebraska service center and got AP in 5 weeks. Pretty painless except paying them 300 for 2 pieces of paper is outrageous.

The I-131 Form update date shown by NSC is 10/18, whereas many of the folks are still awaiting their AP's...and even Texas says I-131 processing date current....So how come majority of them still waiting for AP ??

I am not sure if I am posting it in the right forum. So please excuse me if not. My cousin have some immigration case going on in San antonia, Texas court. She lives in California. Her court date is on 30th July in texas. I need help to find a good immigration lawyer for her. Could you guys please suggest me immgration lawyer (if possible Indian) there, so that I could contact asap. TIA.

Now a days VFS is not releasing appointment dates more than 2 - 2.5 weeks in advance. I am not aware of any specific time of the day when these become available.
