This is my third EAD renewal. My 485 is pending at NSC. I am in CA. All my previous EADs/APs etc were filed at NSC.
This time when my EAD renewal is filed (by my new attorney, in new company) I got receipt Number starting with MSC.
Who decides where to file MSC? What's the criteria to file at MSC? Shouldn't it be file at NSC?
Is this a mistake?

Enrique's Journey (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5225180) is a very powerful book written by an LA Times journalist about illegal migrants who take the Tren de los muertos, or the Train of the Dead to get to the US.
Will it be the kind of book, like 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_Tom's_Cabin) to shake the conscience of a country to generate true Immigration reform? Will it move the likes of even politicians, who have no conscience, and get Immigration Reform accomplished?
I hope so. I had tears all through while reading the excerpts from the book, and hearing Sonia Nazario on NPR today.

Hi
I have applied for I-140 thro Substitute in March 2006(15 months ago) and I got a query on my education and company financial status in August 06 and attorney replied back to query in the month of October 2006.
When I check my status online shows as "we received your application on October 20th 2006 and in process".
Last month there was an updated date on 05/25/07 on my case and when i checked with employer, he says we have not yet received any information from USCIS to attorney.
Now the attorney says, we will be Re-filing my case, as one case got denial from my company (Not mine itseems). So that we will get new Receipt Number as I have only 8 Months left on my H1 and we can apply for 1 year extension meanwhile before 6 months of H1 expiry.
Is it a good idea to re-file I-140 from the same Service Center(NSC)?
or Can I apply in PERM now as I have only 8 months on my H1.
Pl. suggest.

If she gets J1 visa, then she would have to stay outside of US for 2 years at the end of J1 visa before she can get her greencard (even if you become citizen and apply for her). Another option would be that she would have to work in medically underserved region for 2-3 years to obtain J1- waiver, before she can apply for greencard.

I already have my 485 pending at NSC. My state comes under TSC jurisdiction.
Where should i file for my EAD, if I don't file concurrently with 485? at NSC where my 485 pending or at TSC?

I would call NVC (National Visa Center), they have a customer service number and I heard they are pretty helpfull.

USCIS has updated the H-1B cap count. (http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=138b6138f898d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCR D&vgnextchannel=91919c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1 RCRD) As of December 8, CIS has received approximately 61,500 cases against the regular (non-Master's) H-1B cap of 65,000. However, since CIS sets aside up to 6,500 of this 65,000 for nationals of Chile and Singapore, it is possible that they will stop accepting other H-1B petitions soon, if not already. We are still filing new petitions, but with fingers crossed that they are not too late. If you need to file, please do so ASAP.

My I-94 extension (for L1B visa) was denied on Oct '08 and I returned in 4 days after they updated Denial status. Reason for denail is "lack of specialized knowledge". I am planning to apply for L1B again in next month (By showing additional certification). Can you please advice me
- is it fine to apply for visa again as it will be more then 6 months after it was denied
- Do I need to show the copy of denial notice during visa interview? Is there any thread available providing suggestions for those applying for visa again after it was denied earlier...

Really disappointing. Senator Schumer says on the one hand that the targeted companies are not violating the law and on the other says they are underpaying their workers - which would be a violation of the law. Which is it? And he disparages the entire staffing industry - an industry that in the US employs far more American citizens than immigrants - by questioning the legitimacy of the business model and complaining that these companies don't make anything. On a serious note, you just have to inform your (dependent's) employer and provide them a copy of your unexpired EAD. Thats it! The employer may require you to fill a new I9 form.

My I-140 & I-485 were filed concurrently in July and I have received the receipt notices last week. I have been told by my manager that I have been considered for a promotion. The job title changes from Sr.Database Administrator to Sr.Database Administrator,Staff. The new job after promotion will have additional/new responsibilities like leading/mentoring the team members in addition to the current job responsibilities. I have the following questions:
(1) Is there any risk to GC processing if the job title changes ?
(2) Is there anything that needs to be done/filed with USCIS to reflect the job title change ?
